![]() In the display segment, both devices are equal and so we have a tie. On the other hand, when used under direct sunlight, both devices did have some reflection issues with the brightness not being sufficient. The text and images are clear and sharp and are perfect when used indoors. However, SAMSUNG has immensely improved their display game with OLED and AMOLED display in their more expensive tablets and smartphones, but I guess the price is a bottleneck for this device to move into such technologies.īoth devices have a PPI of 224 which is brilliant for the price, even more so for the AMAZON HD 10 which is much cheaper than the SAMSUNG tablet. In my personal experience, I prefer IPS panels because they are quite easy on the eyes but again this my personal preference after reviewing multiple tablets over the years. In short, IPS is considered an improvement when compared to the traditional TFT display. The SAMSUNG tablet has a TFT display while the AMAZON HD sports an IPS panel. ![]() DisplayĪs I mentioned before both these devices have 10.1” displays with similar resolutions and pixels per inch but you’ll find two different technologies in action. Overall, in the battle between the Amazon fire tablet vs Samsung A 10.1 for the aesthetics and design category, SAMSUNG easily takes it home. When it comes to speakers, both devices don’t perform well in this segment but what I liked about the AMAZON HD 10 was the fact that in landscape mode, the speakers are arranged so that the sound comes from both the right and left side but in the Galaxy A, the dual speakers are both set at the bottom (vertically) so you only get sound from one side when you use the phone in landscape mode. In terms of buttons and ports, both devices have USB-C 2.0 charging ports, the usual power and volume control buttons, a microSD slot, and the 3.5mm jack. Naturally, due to this difference in build material, you’d expect the SAMSUNG tablet to have a higher weight but surprisingly the plastic AMAZON HD 10 weighs more by around 0.08lbs (36g). The Galaxy Tab A carries this premium feeling with its metal body while the AMAZON HD 10 has a plastic casing. I’d say 90% of the time SAMSUNG tablets and smartphones have a premium feeling to it unless it’s a budget device. Moving on to the weight aspect, both devices may look similar but there is a major difference in the build material. Since both displays are 10.1”, I think the Galaxy A 10.1 is a clear winner here because tablets are meant for portability, so a more compact device is easier to carry around and easily fit even inside your handbag. The larger dimensions of the AMAZON HD 10 set at 10.31 x 6.26 x 0.39 inches (262 x 159 x 9.8 mm) is due to thick bezels around the display while the Galaxy tablet has a lower screen to body ratio. No one wants to walk around with a brick no matter how good the performance is.Īt first glance, both devices look quite similar, but the AMAZON HD 10 is slightly bigger even though both devices have 10.1-inch displays. I’m sure everyone has heard of the saying don’t judge a book by its cover, but unfortunately, when it comes to consumer devices the looks and designs are quite important.
